An introductory wine course taught in English by a certified mother-tongue English speaking Educator, aimed at all wine enthusiasts or those who are thinking of pursuing a career in the sector. The WSET Level 1 qualification is considered a first approach to the international wine world: with the opportunity to learn about the main classifications through the sight, smell and taste of the wines we offer you during the course. The WSET Level 1 certification will allow you to accurately describe a wine and to know all the rules for pairing it with the right dishes.

Teaching Material: Text Book (An introduction to Wine)

Duration: 1 day, from 9:00 to 17:00 with 6 hours of in-person lessons and tasting of 9 wines.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) and Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
TQT is an estimate of the total amount of time, measured in hours that a learner would reasonably need to be able to show the level of achievement necessary for the award of a qualification, it is made up of GLH and private study time. GLH include all tutor-supervised learning and supervised assessments. The TQT for the Level 1 Award in Wines is 6 hours, all as GLH. This includes the 45 minutes for the examination.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

1. Describe the main factors that determine the style and characteristics of the wine
2. Identify the various stages of grape ripening and understand the most common vineyard practices and particulars.
3. Know the main rules for serving and storing wine and the influence that the temperature, position and lighting have on the conservation of the bottle.
4. Know the main rules for pairing wine with food, and understand the interactions and influences they have on each other.
5. Describe a wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT), a rigorous and universal method that will allow you to acquire a common language, usable all over the world.

Attention : The courses will be held only and exclusively upon reaching a minimum number of 10 students.


Final exam

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines assessment is a closed-book examination of 45 minutes’ duration and consists of 30 multiple-choice questions

Results are graded as follows:
Mark of 70% and above: Pass
Mark of 69% and below: Fail

In the event of failing the test, it is possible to retake the examination upon payment of the corresponding fee

– Candidates may apply to resit the examination if they are unsuccessful. There is no limit on  the number of attempts that may be made, until the material is updated.
– Candidates who have passed are not permitted to retake to improve their grade.
