THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE

WSET Level 2 is a wine course taught in English, by a certified mother-tongue English speaking Educator, that offers a solid basic overview of production areas, styles and their valuation. Among the main contents: external factors that influence the style of a wine; characteristics of still wines, fortified wines, and sparkling wines; conservation and serving temperature of still, fortified and sparkling wines.

Duration: 3 days, from 9:00 to 17:00 with 17 hours of in-person lessons and tasting of 50 wines.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) and Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
TQT is an estimate of the total amount of time, measured in hours, that a learner would reasonably need to be able to show the level of achievement necessary for the award of a qualification. It is made up of GLH and private study time. GLH include all tutor-supervised learning and supervised assessments. The TQT for the Level 2 Award in Wines is 28 hours. This is made up of 17 GLH (of which 1 hour is for the examination) and 11 hours’ private study.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

1. understand the main factors (climate, soil, human intervention) that influence the style of a wine;
2. grasp the characteristics of the major international grape varieties used for the production of still wines; associate the wines produced with these grapes with a specific style and know how to identify the quality; geographically locate these varieties in their respective production countries and wine-growing regions of the world;
3. describe the style and quality of the main varieties of still wines produced from regionally important grapes; place other wines of regional importance in their relative wine production areas;
4. explain the production process of sparkling wines and describe the style for the main appellations of the world;
5. understand the production methods of sweet and fortified wines and describe the style for the main appellations of the world;
6. recognize aspects relating to the evolution of wine over time, its conservation and how it should be served;
7. write a technical description of the wine using the Systematic Approach to WSET Tasting.

Final Exam

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines assessment is a closed-book examination of 60 minutes’ duration and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions

Results are graded as follows:
Mark of 85% and above: Pass with distinction
Mark of between 70% and 84%: Pass with merit
Mark of between 55% and 69%: Pass
Mark of between 45% and 54%: Fail
Mark of 44% and below: Fail unclassified

In the event of failing the test, it is possible to retake the examination upon payment of the corresponding fee

Resits

-Candidates may apply to resit the examination if they are unsuccessful. There is no limit on  the number of attempts that may be made. Until the study materials are updated.
– Candidates who have passed are not permitted to retake to improve their grade.
